Amanita flavorubescens Atkinson Cap 4.5-11 cm across, convex becoming flatter with age, with a very faintly lined margin; golden yellow to brownish yellow; smooth, slightly sticky, with thick, loose, yellow patches of volval remnants dotted around the cap. Gills free, close, moderately broad; whitish. Stem 50-130 x 8-20mm, tapering slightly toward the top; white to yellowish and minutely hairy, sometimes developing wine-red stains on the lower stem; the thin, yellowish ring sometimes hangs like a ragged skirt near the top of the stem; the oval-shaped basal bulb sometimes has yellowish cottony patches of volval remains on it. Flesh firm; white. Spores ellipsoid, amyloid, 9.7-10.2 x 6.3-7µ. Deposit white. Habitat singly or in small groups on the ground under hardwoods or mixed woods and in open urban areas. Occasional. Found in eastern North America. Season May-October. Not edible-avoid, possibly poisonous.
